PG and Research Department of Home Science

B.Sc. Home Science (later named as B.Sc. Family and Community Science) was the first-degree programme started in the college in 1968, with Chemistry and Zoology as subsidiaries. The programme deals with the management of various aspects related to home and community. It provides students with the opportunity to sharpen their capacities with a sense of social responsibility. The courses included in B.Sc. Family and Community Science programme are Methodology of Home Science and Food Science, Human Physiology, Human Development, Family Dynamics, Interior Decoration, Human Nutrition, Biochemistry, Textile Science, Environmental Studies, Human Rights, Family Resource Management, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, Fashion Designing, Apparel Production, Extension Education, Developmental Communication and Food Safety.

M.Sc. Family and Community Science programme was started in 2000. The department also offers various certificate courses to students. Both the UG and PG programmes provided by the department have a wider prospect that forms the basis of challenging professions in various fields.

The department has well-equipped laboratories for Food and Nutrition, Biochemistry, Textiles and Human Development (Laboratory Nursery School). Residence for cottage stay is another added feature. The Dietary Counselling Centre in the department provides dietary advice to stakeholders and the public. The department was upgraded as Research Centre in 2017 and the first batch of coursework was started in 2019.

Diet Counseling

The Home Science Department hosts a dedicated Diet Counseling Center, offering expert guidance on nutrition and healthy eating habits. The center provides personalized consultations and dietary assessments to individuals seeking guidance on their nutritional needs. Through one-on-one sessions, visitors receive tailored advice on balanced diets, meal planning, and lifestyle modifications, promoting overall health and well-being. This valuable resource within the department serves as a hub for promoting nutritional awareness and fostering healthier lifestyles in the community.


Laboratory Nursery

The nursery school situated on the campus serves as a vital laboratory for the Home Science Department, enabling in-depth studies on child development. This controlled environment allows researchers and students to observe and analyze various aspects of children’s growth, behavior, and learning patterns. By interacting with the young learners, Home Science students gain valuable insights into early childhood development, aiding their academic pursuits and practical knowledge. The nursery school functions as a living laboratory, facilitating hands-on experiences that contribute significantly to the department’s research efforts and the overall understanding of child development processes.


Textile Lab

The Textile Lab provides students with hands-on experience in the intricate art of stitching and embroidery. Equipped with state-of-the-art sewing machines, embroidery tools, and a myriad of fabrics, the lab offers a creative space for students to explore their talents and refine their skills. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students learn various stitching techniques, embroidery styles, and fabric manipulation methods. This practical exposure not only hones their craftsmanship but also fosters a deep understanding of textile materials and design aesthetics.


Biochemistry Lab

The Biochemistry Lab stands as a hub of scientific exploration and research. Equipped with advanced instruments and this lab provides students with a hands-on learning experience in the field of biochemistry. Under the guidance of skilled professors, students conduct experiments, analyze biological molecules, and explore biochemical processes. The lab serves as a platform for understanding the fundamental principles of biochemistry, including enzyme kinetics, molecular biology techniques, and metabolic pathways.


Nutrition Lab

The Nutrition Lab serves as a focal point for in-depth studies and practical applications related to dietary science. Awareness Classes for the Elderly: Promoting Health and Well-being

The Home Science Department organized awareness classes for the elderly, focusing on topics relevant to their health and well-being. The sessions covered areas such as proper nutrition, exercise, mental health, and managing age-related health conditions. Experts provided practical tips on maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle, addressing common concerns faced by older adults. The classes aimed to empower the elderly with the knowledge and tools to improve their quality of life and promote independence in daily living.

Parental Awareness Classes on Child Development and Well-being

The Home Science Department organized a series of parental awareness classes focusing on key aspects of child growth and well-being. These sessions, held at Taluk Hospital and Apollo Adlux Hospital, covered essential topics such as the growth and development of children, nutrition for preschoolers, prevention of screen addiction, and the importance of breastfeeding. Experts provided valuable insights to parents, helping them understand how to support their children’s physical, emotional, and nutritional needs while promoting healthy habits and lifestyles.

Exploring Food Processing Innovations at KAU

On October 17, 2024, Home Science students visited the Centre of Formulation of Convenient Foods at Kerala Agricultural University (KAU). They explored advanced equipment used in food production, including sorting, drying, and milling machines that improve processing efficiency and food quality. The visit offered valuable insights into modern food processing technologies and their role in creating nutritious, convenient food products.

Exploring Special Education: Visit to Kripa Special School, Keezhmad

Home Science students visited Kripa Special School, Keezhmad, to gain insights into the educational approaches for children with special needs. The visit provided an opportunity to observe the specialized teaching methods and therapeutic services offered to students, fostering inclusive education. Students learned about the role of individualized care in promoting the academic and emotional development of children with disabilities.

Pedagogical Approaches in Special Education: Visit to Snehasadan Special School

Home Science students explored pedagogical approaches in teaching and learning through peer learning, visits, and practical experiences at Snehasadan Special School, Pothiyakkara, Kalady. The visit offered valuable insights into inclusive education, focusing on individualized teaching methods and learning strategies for children with special needs. Students observed how peer learning and hands-on activities were used to enhance the development of these children. The experience deepened their understanding of special education techniques, promoting empathy and reinforcing the importance of inclusive, practical approaches in teaching.

Internship Experience at Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Ernakulam

Home Science students interned at Indira Gandhi Cooperative Hospital, Ernakulam, gaining practical exposure to hospital operations. They observed various departments, including patient care, nutrition, and wellness services, and interacted with medical professionals. This hands-on experience enhanced their understanding of healthcare management and nutrition, bridging theory with real-world applications.

Breastfeeding Awareness Week: Community Program by the Department

As part of Breastfeeding Week, the Home Science Department organized community awareness programs on August 6 and 7, 2024. Dr. Anjana Venugopalan, a specialist from Apollo Adlux Hospital, led a session on the importance of breastfeeding, addressing common concerns and promoting healthier practices for mothers and infants. The program at Taluk Hospital, Angamaly, further educated the community on breastfeeding techniques, nutritional benefits, and its role in infant health.

Exploring Marine Science: A Visit to the National Institute of Oceanography

On 26th September 2024, Home Science students visited the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), gaining insights into marine science. They explored research on oceanography, marine ecosystems, and environmental sustainability, learning about tools and techniques used to study ocean currents, marine life, and climate change impacts. The visit deepened their understanding of ocean studies and its importance for environmental conservation and sustainable living.

Exploring Early Childhood Education: Visit to Jolly Nursery School

On 29th August 2024, Home Science students visited Jolly Nursery School to learn about its structure and functions. The visit provided valuable insights into the organization of early childhood education, including classroom setup, teaching methods, and child development activities. The students observed how the school fosters a nurturing environment for young children, focusing on both educational and emotional growth. They also gained an understanding of how various educational strategies are implemented to promote creativity, social skills, and cognitive development in early learners.

Exploring Resist Printing: Tie and Dye & Batik Workshop

On 22nd August 2024, Home Science students participated in a workshop on Resist Printing Techniques, featuring Tie and Dye and Batik methods. The session was conducted by Ms. Nixy Ed, an alumni expert in textile arts. Students learned the intricacies of creating vibrant patterns using resist printing, exploring traditional techniques of dyeing fabrics to produce beautiful and unique designs. Ms. Nixy Ed shared her expertise, guiding participants through the step-by-step process of both Tie and Dye and Batik, enhancing their understanding of textile design and craftsmanship. The workshop was a creative and enriching experience, inspiring students to explore new techniques in fabric art.

Exploring the Art of Silk Weaving: A Visit to Sahrudhaya Silk Unit

On 19th August 2024, a group of Home Science students visited the Sahrudhaya Silk Weaving Unit, where they had the opportunity to learn about the intricate process of silk weaving. The visit provided them with valuable insights into the traditional techniques used in the production of silk, from spinning the threads to weaving intricate designs. The students observed skilled artisans at work, gaining firsthand experience of the craftsmanship and dedication involved in creating high-quality silk fabrics. This educational trip not only enhanced their understanding of textiles but also deepened their appreciation for the cultural heritage and craftsmanship that goes into silk weaving.

Enhancing Skills in Floral Design: Flower Arrangement Workshop

On 14th August 2024, a floral arrangement workshop was held to enhance participants’ skills and creativity in the art of flower design. The session provided hands-on experience in creating beautiful and innovative floral arrangements, focusing on techniques, color coordination, and composition. Participants learned how to combine different flowers and foliage to produce aesthetically pleasing displays, while also exploring the cultural and symbolic significance of flowers in design. The workshop aimed to inspire creativity and refine the participants’ ability to create visually stunning floral arrangements for various occasions.

Visit to Microbiology Lab

On March 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm, I BSc Family and Community Science students visited MAGJ Hospital, Mookkannoor, accompanied by Dr. Megha Thampy and Ms. Rajani Dei T R, Assistant Professors from the PG and Research Department of Home Science. The lab technician, Sr. Josmy CSN, demonstrated precise techniques in handling bacterial cultures and conducting tests, providing valuable insight into microbiology’s role in research and healthcare.

Seminar on ‘Panoramic Perspectives of Patent and Copyright in Indian Context

The PG and Research Department of Home Science, along with IEDC and IIC, Morning Star Home Science College, hosted a seminar on ‘Exploring Patent and Copyright Dynamics in the Indian Landscape’ on March 20, 2024, at 9:30 am in the conference hall. Dr. I G Rathish, Assistant Professor at CUSAT’s Inter University Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Studies, served as the esteemed resource person, offering valuable insights tailored to the Indian context.

Food Safety Supervisor Training and Certification

The PG and Research Department of Home Science, in collaboration with KARE, Ernakulam, organized a Food Safety Supervisor Training and Certification Programme on March 13, 2024, at the Conference Hall. The program, attended by 40 students, commenced at 9:30 am. Dr. Megha Thampy, Assistant Professor, welcomed the gathering, and Mr. Wilson P P, FOSTAC Food safety trainer, conducted the session. Students actively participated and took the certification exam.

Soft Skill Development Program – “Deciding with Confidence: Mastering the Steps in Decision Making

The PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a Soft Skill Development Program on decision-making for first and second-year BA Economics students on March 12, 2024. Headed by Dr. Lizmitha Godwin, the program emphasized the significance of decision-making and provided practical examples to enhance understanding. Students actively engaged in discussions and sought clarification during the session.

Miss Nutrition Contest

As part of Women’s Day celebration 2024, the PG and Research Department of Home Science, with the Health and Wellness Club, organized a Miss Nutrition contest to promote healthy eating. It included three rounds: anthropometric screening, a nutrition-based test, and an awareness round. Ms. Jesna John (II BSc FCS) won, crowned by Principal Dr. Sr Shemi George.

Awareness class for Elderly

On February 28, 2024, first-year PG students from the PG & Research Department of Home Science conducted an awareness class at Pakalveedu for the elderly. MSc FCS students curated content on topics like physical and psychological changes, lifestyle diseases, and dietary management for the elderly. Utilizing PowerPoint presentations, they facilitated clear communication and interaction, culminating in doubt clearance segments. The engagement proved fruitful, enriching both students and the elderly with valuable insights.

Exploring Home Science: A Collaborative Visit by Avinashilingam University

On February 24, 2024, the Department of Human Development from Avinashilingam University visited Morning Star Home Science College to explore activities. They were warmly welcomed by the Principal and faculty. Dr. Lizmitha Godwin presented career opportunities in Home Science. After the session, a campus tour followed, visiting various facilities. The visitors departed by 11:30 am, grateful for the warm reception and knowledge exchange.

ICT for Project Report Writing -Capacity Building Program

The PG and Research Department of Home Science hosted a two-day event on February 23 and 24, 2024, at the Conference Hall. The program, attended by 34 students from III BSc FCS, II MSc FCS, and II MA Business Economics, featured practical demonstrations and hands-on activities focused on Microsoft Word and Excel. Emphasis was placed on their applications in preparing project reports.

Parent-Teacher Association meeting

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting for the academic year 2023-24 was held on February 20, 2024, at 2 pm, focusing on final-year UG students. Parents of III B.Sc. Home Science students engaged in discussions with class in-charges and faculty members to review academic progress and identify areas for improvement. Valuable suggestions and feedback from the parents were diligently recorded.

Visit by Alumni of Home Science Department

The 1987-90 Batch alumni of the Department convened at the college on February 13, 2024, at 11 am. They held a meeting with the faculty members in the conference hall, followed by a visit to the department and its newly constructed laboratories.

Orientation on Food Safety Training Programme

Students of the Department of Home Science attended a Food Safety Training Programme orientation on February 9, 2024, at 12:00 pm in Nazareth Block. Mr. Joy P Mathew, MD, and Food Safety Trainer, along with Ms. Ashmy A Baby, Faculty in Medical Coding and Hospital Administration, led the session. They provided information on FSSAI certificate courses, fostering engaging interactions with students.

Cottage Stay

Starting from February 4, 2024, the Cottage Stay program commenced for final year III B.Sc. Home Science students, as per the syllabus. Divided into two groups of 11 members each, students stayed for 6 days, assuming various responsibilities like hostess, cook, assistant cook, and manager. Thematic decorations adorned the cottage, reflecting students’ creativity. They prepared recipes aligned with themes, focusing on nutrition. The program concluded on February 15, 2024, offering enriching experiential learning.

Awareness class for Parents

The first-year PG students of the PG & Research Department of Home Science organized an awareness class for parents of preschool children on topics such as ‘Learning disabilities, Malnutrition in children, and Parenting style’ on 3 February 2024. To accommodate working parents, an online meeting was scheduled. The students delivered the content effectively using PowerPoint presentations, facilitating clear understanding. Each session concluded with a doubt clearance segment, promoting interaction and clarification. The interaction between students and parents was engaging and fruitful.

Children’s Fest – Varnachirakukal

The III BSc FCS students of the PG and Research Department of Home Science, in association with ICDS Angamaly, organized a flash mob as a promotional event for the Children’s fest ‘Varnachirakukal’. The flash mob took place at the KSRTC stand Angamaly on January 23, 2024, at 3:00 pm. The performance aimed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children in today’s society and involved the participation of about 11 students.

Study Tour

The PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a three-day study tour for final-year UG students from January 18 to January 20, 2024. The tour included visits to Munnar, Kodaikkanal, Grape wine garden at Kambam, and a wind energy farm at Ramakkalmedu. Supervision was provided by Ms. Sherin Abraham, Assistant Professor, and Sr. Moly T P, Junior Superintendent.

SWASTHYA – Workshop on screening & management of anaemia in women

The PG & Research Department of Home Science, in collaboration with HLL Lifecare Limited & Indian Oil, organized an Anaemia screening and management workshop at the college on December 19, 2023, as part of the SWASTHYA project. Dr. Rino Raveendran conducted an awareness class on ‘Anaemia – causes and prevention,’ followed by screening and counselling by Mr. Gurram Akhil & Mr. Jijo S Pramod, Project Associates of the Swasthya Project. Staff and students participated in the program held at Nazareth Block.

Children’s Day Celebration

Children’s Day 2023 was celebrated at Morning Star Play School, Angamaly, by I M.Sc. students of the PG and Research Department of Home Science on November 14, 2023. The students conducted a talk on ‘Chacha Nehru,’ distributed red roses, organized games, and took the children for a campus walk. Activities included a visit to the college chapel and a cartoon movie screening in the conference hall. Dr. Sr. Shemi George, Principal of Morning Star Home Science College, interacted with the children and distributed chocolates, with assistance from the nursery school teacher, Ms. Jainy, and her assistant.

Internship on Early Childhood Education

First-year M.Sc. Family and Community Science students completed a 10-day internship in Early Childhood Education, split into two phases: October 16-20, 2023, and November 13-17, 2023. The internship took place at Morning Star Play School in Angamaly, the department’s designated laboratory nursery school. Students gained insights into preschool administration, teaching methods, and the use of teaching aids through practical exercises.

Domestic Tech Expo

The PG & Research Department of Home Science organized a Domestic Tech Expo as part of an education expo for high school and higher secondary students on October 26 and 27, 2023. The event aimed to introduce students to Home Science, offering hands-on experiences in nutrition, home management, interior decoration, textiles, and human development. The expo featured stalls by the Silk Mark Organization showcasing silk worm rearing practices and a competition on silk identification, as well as a stall by Nutriroot company selling millets and related products.

Visit to Special Schools

First-year postgraduate students visited special schools KRIPA for differently-abled children and The Kerala Blind School Society in Aluva on October 12, 2023. They interacted with school personnel, learning about the special care and educational provisions for disabled and blind children.

‘Flavour Fiesta’ – The Food Sale

Second-year Post Graduate students organized ‘Flavour Fiesta,’ a food sale in the college canteen on October 4 and 5, 2023. Ms. Shyni K Ittiachan, Head of the Department of Physics, inaugurated the event. The canteen was beautifully decorated, offering a variety of snacks, beverages like double-layered tea and cold coffee, as well as biryani. Students prepared these items meticulously in the nutrition lab, attracting enthusiastic participation from both staff and students, making the sale a grand success.

Millet Recipe Competition – Millet Marvels: The Great Recipe Showdown

As part of Nutrition Month, the college hosted a millet recipe competition, ‘Millet Marvels: The Great Recipe Showdown,’ on September 27, 2023, at Nazareth block. Dr. Sr. Shemi George, Principal of Morning Star Home Science College, inaugurated the event. Students competed in teams of two, preparing at least two recipes with millet as a major ingredient. The nutritional importance of millets was showcased alongside the recipes. 27 teams participated, and winners received certificates. Additionally, III B.Sc. FCS students organized a millet payasam sale.

World Alzheimer’s Day


In commemoration of World Alzheimer’s Day 2023, the department organized a talk titled “Never too early, never too late” on September 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm. Ms. Albitta Mary Avarachan & Ms. Arsha John, Family Counselors from Rajagiri Family Counseling Center, discussed dementia and Alzheimer’s symptoms, risk factors, and preventive measures, urging students to adopt proactive approaches to mitigate risks.

Extension classes as part of Poshan Maah 2023

During Poshan Maah 2023, faculty members conducted awareness sessions on food and nutrition. Dr. Megha Thampy addressed sustainable food habits for students, while Ms. Unnimaya Ashok focused on preventing severe acute malnutrition among children for Anganwadi workers and ICDS supervisors. Ms. Sherin Abraham spoke about sustainable food choices for NSS Volunteers, and Ms. Sajitha Suseelan S discussed nurturing healthy eating habits in young children at Holy Grace Academy.

Class on ‘Art of Early Childhood Education’

The PG & Research Department of Home Science conducted a session on ‘Art of Early Childhood Education’ on September 15, 2023, led by Ms. Jency M J, an Anganwadi Worker at ICDS Edappally. She discussed effective teaching methods for preschoolers, demonstrated the use of various teaching aids, and highlighted the roles of ICDS and Anganwadi, stressing the importance of record-keeping in preschools.

Visit to Early Education Center and Special School for Deaf

First-year PG students of the department visited Early Education Centers on September 7, 2023. They began at Jolly Nursery in Angamaly at 10 am, where they learned about the school’s history and gathered information on various aspects including facilities, staff, curriculum, and evaluation procedures. At 12 pm, they visited St. Clare Oral School for Deaf near Kalady, gaining insight into specialized teaching methods, curriculum, therapies, and skill training programs tailored for hearing-impaired students.

Onam Celebration at Morning Star Play School

The first-year M.Sc. students of the PG & Research Department of Home Science organized an Onam celebration at Morning Star Play School, Angamaly, on August 23rd and 24th, 2023. They arranged various programs and competitions for the children, including running races, collecting toffees, coloring Onam designs, musical chairs, and singing Onam songs on the first day. The children, along with the play school teacher and PG students, dressed in traditional attire and enjoyed activities, including making a floral carpet and sharing Payasam. On August 24th, prizes were awarded to the winners by the play school teacher, Ms. Jainy Johnson, honoring the occasion.

Faculty Exchange Programme

A Faculty Exchange Programme with Naipunnya Institute of Management and Information Technology, Koratty, was held on August 18, 2023. Ms. Unnimaya Ashok conducted a session on ‘Health and Hygiene’ for II B.Sc. Hotel Management students, while Mr. Dhanesh T N led a session on ‘Table Etiquettes’ for III B.Sc. Family and Community Science students. This initiative aimed to enhance educational standards, offering students higher quality education, diverse perspectives, and improved learning experiences.

Visit to Chenamangalam Handloom Weaving Unit

In connection with National Handloom Day observed on August 7, 2023, 21 undergraduate students and 2 postgraduate students, along with 2 faculty members, visited the handloom weaving center at Chenamangalam Weavers’ Society on August 8, 2023. Mr. Gireesh, the society’s Secretary, explained its inception and the weaving process, emphasizing the significance of the Geographical Indication of Chenamangalam sarees. They observed pirn winding, basic weaving operations, and other aspects of the handloom process, as well as a dyeing unit on-site.

World Breast Feeding Week – Poster Making Competition

PG and Research Department of Home Science observed World breast feeding week by conducting a poster making competition. The theme for the competition was “Let’s make breastfeeding and work, work!”. 14 students participated in the competition. Ann Treesa Mariat (I M.Sc. FCS), Parvathy Vinu (I B.Sc. FCS), Sethlakshmi S (I B.Sc. FCS) secured first, second and third prizes respectively.

Usha Computerised Sewing Machine Demo

To provide students with insights into the current trends in the garment industry and to highlight entrepreneurship opportunities within the field, the department collaborated with Usha Sewing Machine Company to organize a demonstration of Computerized Sewing Machines on July 21, 2023. Ms. Bindhu, Deputy Marketing Manager & Mr. Akhil, Technical Expert of Usha Sewing Machine Company were the resource persons. Ms. Bindhu shared her extensive knowledge and experience, shedding light on the latest advancements, innovations, and transformations occurring in the garment industry. Mr. Akhil showcased the installation and setup of Usha computerized embroidery machines, providing detailed instructions on the step-by-step process of embroidery work. Students received training on operating the computerized embroidery machines.

Visit to Mithradham Renewable Energy Centre

On July 14, 2023, 20 postgraduate students, accompanied by 2 faculty members, visited the Mithradham Renewable Energy Centre in Aluva. Mr. Jose K. C, the Principal, explained the institution’s vision and showcased various eco-friendly technologies like solar dryers, warm water systems, water pumps, wind generators, and photovoltaic plants, emphasizing sustainable development.

In May-June 2023, second-year M.Sc. Family and Community Science students completed a diet therapy and program planning internship at ‘Foodastha’ in Kochi. They gained hands-on experience in creating diet plans, processing bakery and savory products, and visited the biochemistry and microbiology lab on-site.

Family and Community Science students completed an internship focused on Diet Therapy and Programme Planning in Public Health Nutrition at ‘Foodastha’, a food industry located in Kochi from 29 May to 5 June, 2023. Foodastha specializes in food technology consultancy services, covering all aspects of food business operations. The students gained practical experience in creating diet plans and presenting them effectively and also received hands-on training in the processing of various bakery and savory products. The students also visited the biochemistry and microbiology lab within the food industry premises.

BODSQUAD

The first-year Post Graduate students of the department organized an awareness program called “BODSQUAD” on 30th March 2023 in the common class at Nazareth block at 9.30 am. The program was specifically conducted for the first-year undergraduate students of the college who were identified as underweight during health assessment. The awareness session covered topics such as assessing health status, identifying causes of underweight condition, understanding risk factors, and promoting a healthy diet. The class was led by Ms. Asna Asharaf and Ms. Nesnamol Marackar. Leaflets were distributed, and students had the opportunity to clarify their doubts. A total of 35 students participated in the program.

Snehakoodu

The students of II B.Sc FCS visited a pakalveedu called ‘Snehakoodu’ in Angamaly on 24th March 2023 at 11 am as part of their curriculum. They interacted with the inmates, gathered information, and conducted entertainment programs. The students also distributed food items to the inmates. Ms. Sherin Abraham, Assistant Professor in Home Science, provided assistance to the students during the visit.

Merit Day 2023

The college organized a Merit Day function on 14th March 2023 at 1.30 pm in the college auditorium to reward the pass-out students who secured top positions in University Examinations at UG and PG levels. The chief guest for the event was Sri. P.A. Mohammed Arif, Police Superintendent and Assistant Director, Kerala Police Academy, Thrissur. The function also recognized the proficiency prizes for students in each class and awarded prizes to students who excelled in sports and arts competitions.

Salt and Pepper

The final year B.Sc. students of the department conducted a food fest cum sale, ‘Salt & Pepper’ as part of the event management programme in their curriculum on 14th March 2023 in the Nazareth block. The College Principal, Rev. Dr. Sr. Rosily A.V. inaugurated the food fest. The students have gone through all the managerial steps like planning, organizing, implementing, controlling and evaluating the event. The students prepared ood items such as kappa biriyani, juices and snacks in the nutrition lab. The food sale was a grand success because of the active participation of the staff and students of the college

Study Tour 2023

The PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a study tour to Goa from 14th to 18th February 2023. A group of 20 final-year UG students, along with faculty members Dr. Sr. Shemi George, Ms. Rajani Devi T. R, and Ms. Sherin Abraham, participated in the tour. The students visited various places of historical significance such as Aguada Fort, Chapora Fort, Old Goa Church, as well as popular beaches like Calangute Beach, Baga Beach, Anjuna Beach, and Tito’s street.

Love and Lolitta

The second-year Post Graduate students of the department organized a food sale named ‘Love & Lolitta’ as part of their syllabus. The sale took place in a cafeteria set up in the classroom on 14th and 15th February 2023. The College Principal, Rev. Dr. Sr. Rosily A.V., inaugurated the sale, which featured beautifully decorated tables, flower arrangements, and curtain styles. There were a total of 13 food items available for sale, including Snow dumplings, banana Jumanji, unnimadhuram, bread toast, onion fritters, sizzling pasta, double-decker, classie mojito, and booster chai. The students prepared the items in the nutrition lab, and the food sale was a great success thanks to the participation of the staff and students of the college.

Solar Dryer

he PG and Research Department of Home Science spearheaded the installation of a Solar dryer, generously funded by the college’s management. The solar dryer was inaugurated on 9th December 2022 by Fr. George Pittappillil, Director of Mithradham Renewable Energy Centre, Aluva. He enlightened the students about the functions and benefits of the solar dryer. The Principal, Dr. Sr. Rosily A. V, and the Head of the Department, Dr. Lizmitha Godwin, extended their appreciation during the event. This initiative aims to inspire students and staff to embrace sun drying and naturally preserve locally available seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Nari-Shakti

The PG and Research Department of Home Science provided a certificate course on ‘Nari Shakthi’ to the second-year undergraduate students of the college. The course focused on ‘Resource Management,’ covering essential topics such as time management, energy management, and money management. The course included both theoretical and practical sessions, with Dr. Lizmitha Godwin, Head of the Department, serving as the resource person.

Children’s Day

The department celebrated Children’s Day 2022 at Morning Star Play School in Angamaly on November 14th, 2022. The first-year postgraduate students conducted a talk about “Chacha Nehru” for the pre-school children. Dr. Sr. Rosily A. V., our college Principal, distributed sweets and wished the children a “Happy Children’s Day.” The event also included a coloring competition and various entertainment programs.

School for Blind

The first-year postgraduate students of the department visited The Kerala Blind School Society, a school for the blind in Aluva, on October 27th, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical knowledge about teaching methods, aids, curriculum, and special care and provisions for blind students.

Visit to KRIPA

As part of their curriculum, first-year postgraduate students from the department visited KRIPA, a special school for differently-abled children, on October 27th, 2022. The school is located in Keezhmadu, Aluva. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with the school staff and gain firsthand information about the special care and educational provisions offered to children with physical and mental disabilities.

Visit to a Special School

As part of the curriculum, first-year postgraduate students from the Department of Home Science visited St. Clare Oral HSS in Manikamangalam, Kalady on October 18th, 2022. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with firsthand experience of the educational care provided for hearing-impaired and speech-impaired individuals, as well as to understand how to integrate them into mainstream society. During the visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with the special school staff and students, gathering valuable information in the process.

Microbiology Lab

As part of the curriculum, first-year and second-year BSc Family and Community Science students visited the microbiology lab at the School of Biosciences, MG University in Kottayam on October 18th, 2022. Accompanied by two staff members, Dr. Megha Thampy and Ms. Sherin Abraham, a group of 35 students arrived at the lab at 10:30 am. Dr. Jisha, the Director of Biosciences, provided an introduction, and the students were divided into three groups. They had the opportunity to explore various techniques involved in the lab, including instrumentation, staining techniques, identification and isolation methods. 

Ph.D Scholars

The half-yearly progress report presentation of the PhD scholars in the department for the period January to June 2022 was conducted online on 9th August 2022 at 10.30 am. Dr. Anu Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of Home Science, St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam was the subject expert. She evaluated the work done by the research scholars and gave valuable suggestions for their improvement.

Eternal Gaze

The PG and Research Department of Home Science organized the “Eternal Gaze” fashion show on October 21st, 2022. The event showcased costumes designed by M.Sc. Family and Community Science students. A total of 23 designers and 46 models participated in the fashion show, presenting dresses based on various themes such as Ocean Breeze, Morning Dew, Dreamy Night, Color Valley, and more. The fashion show comprised three rounds, allowing the audience to witness creativity in each round. The models and designers displayed grace and confidence while walking the ramp. Fresher’s Day 2022

The department welcomed first-year graduate and postgraduate students on October 17th, 2022, at the I B.Sc. FCS class. Dr. Lizmitha Godwin, HOD of the PG and Research Department of Home Science, presided over the function. The first-year students introduced themselves, and entertainment programs were presented by second and third-year undergraduate students, as well as second-year postgraduate students of the department. Competitions and games were organized for the first-year students.

Community Lab

The PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a Community Lab Program at Thaluk Hospital, Angamaly, in observance of the International Day of Older Persons on October 14th, 2022. The program was inaugurated by Mr. Reji Mathew, the Municipal Chairman of Angamaly Municipality. Several esteemed guests, including Ms. Reeta Paul (Vice Chairperson, Angamaly Municipality), Mr. Bastiu D Parackal (Development Standing Committee Chairman), Mr. Sabu (Health Supervisor), Mr. Shanavas (Health Inspector), and Ms. Sherin Abraham (Assistant Professor, PG and Research Department of Home Science), addressed the attendees.

During the program, second-year M.Sc. students delivered nutritional awareness classes to the elderly, focusing on topics such as “Nutrition and Healthy Nutritional Food Recipes for the Elderly.” They also conducted demonstrations on healthy recipes and yoga exercises. Medical check-ups were provided to the elderly participants, and various entertainment programs were presented by the students. A total of 29 elderly individuals benefited from this program.

Alumni Meet 2022

The college’s Alumni meet took place on October 8th, 2022, with alumnae gathering in the Mother Teresitta Hall at Nazareth Block at 10 am. The Principal, Rev. Dr. Sr. Rosily A.V, inaugurated the event. Representatives from each department shared their college life experiences, and executive members were elected. Games were organized for the alumnae, and prizes were awarded to the winners. Following the general meeting, the alumnae of the Home Science Department convened in the common hall. Dr. Lizmitha Godwin, HOD, and department faculty members engaged in interactive discussions with the alumnae. A total of 45 alumnae from the department attended the meeting.

Heart Day 2022

The PG and Research Department of Home Science celebrated World Heart Day 2022 by organizing dietary counseling for college students and staff. On September 29th, 2022, the department conducted BMI assessments for participants, followed by dietary counseling by final-year PG students. The focus was on maintaining a healthy physique and promoting a healthy heart. Additionally, the department raised public awareness by presenting slides on the topic ‘Healthy Foods for Healthy Heart’ throughout the day on the LED monitor in the college’s main block.

Onam 2022

The staff and students participated actively in the Onam Celebrations 2022.

Study Tour 2022

PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a study tour to Ooty and Wayanad from 25th to 28th March 2022. 25 final year UG students of the department participated in the study tour. Dr. Sr. Shemi George and Ms.Sherin Abraham were the faculty who accompanied the students. The places visited include Botanical garden, Pine valley, Boat house, Horticulture garden and Tea plantation in Ooty and Mayiladumpara, Banasura dam and Meenmutti waterfalls in Wayanad.

Farewell 2022

A farewell party was organized for the final year M.Sc. and B.Sc. students of Home Science department in the Ist FCS class on 6th March 2020. Dr.Lizmitha Godwin, HOD felicitated the function. The students shared their experience and memories. Several entertainment programs and games were conducted for the students. After the function a lunch was arranged for the students and teachers of the department.

Foodiepedia

The final year PG and UG students of PG & Research Department of Home Science conducted an expo cum food sale on 23rd March 2022 at Nazareth block. The function was inaugurated by the college Principal, Rev. Dr. Sr. Rosily A.V. ‘CASA’, the exhibition on different areas of Home Science subject was organized by the final year UG students. The purpose of the expo was to communicate with people about the significance of Home Science. Each areas of Home Science was displayed in different rooms on different heads such as Interior flare, Fashion and fusion, Human tales, Time for nature and Victuals. A grand food sale ‘Foodiepedia’, was conducted by the final year PG students. Variety of snack items, fruit salads, chocolates, fruit juices, Kizhi biriyani etc were prepared by the students for sale. They also created a restaurant set up and food stalls for the food sale.

Kidney Day 2022

As part of the observation of World Kidney Day, 2022, the first year PG students of the department under the guidance of faculty members organized an awareness programme ‘Kidney Health’, for students on 15th March 2022. The resource persons were Amrutha Prakashan and Amrutha Unnikrishnan. The topics covered were Causes, symptoms and prevention of Kidney diseases and good habits for healthy kidney. Beneficiaries were first year UG students of Home Science and Commerce Departments.

Teaching Methods

An online demonstration class on ‘Effective Teaching Methods in Nursery School’ was conducted for first year PG students of the department on 9th March 2022. The resource person was Mrs. Jency M J, Anganwadi Worker and an in-service trainer for ICDS supervisors in Rajagiri College of Social Sciences. The class was very interesting and informative. She explained and demonstrated different teaching methods suitable in preschool education with the help of teaching aids.

Childhood Care

A series of awareness class were conducted on online platform by the first year post graduate students of PG and Research Department of Home Science on various topics related to Early Childhood Care and Education from 7th to 10th February 2022. The beneficiaries were parents of preschool children. The topics covered were Common childhood diseases, Importance of play and play materials, Behaviour problems, Stress management, Malnutrition in children, Food groups and balanced diet, Ill effects of fast food and Healthy snacks for pre-school children etc

Research Center

The Research center inspection was held on 13th January 2022. Dr. Biju Pushpan was designated by MG University to conduct the inspection of the center.

Internship 2022

As a part of the curriculum, the final-year students of M.Sc. Home Science – Family and Community Science have done Dietetics internships in various institutions. Ten students did an internship in ‘Baking and fine dining etiquettes’ at Cheffield Hotel Management and Aviation, Angamaly from 15th December 2021 to 6th January 2022. Three students had done an internship in Indo American hospital, Vaikam from 27th December 2021 to 10th January 2022 and one student at Rajagiri Hospital, Aluva from 20th December 2021 to 5th January 2022.

Craft Baker

A hands-on training programme was conducted for the students of ‘Craft Baker’, the certificate course in Home Science on 27th November 2021. The programme aimed at enhancing the skills of students in preparing bakery food items. Mr. Antony Kolbey, Chef, was the resource person for the training programme. He demonstrated the preparation of pizza, cake and some desserts and also trained the students in preparing the food items.

Community Lab

Morning Star Community Lab is a humble women empowerment initiative of the College. ‘Empowering Women for a Better Tomorrow’ is the watchword of the programme. The Community Lab envisages a better living status for the womenfolk in and around the college through education, raising awareness, literacy and training. Each department conducts at least one programme in a year related to the curriculum

This year the PG and Research Department of Home Science conducted a baking class at Pakalveedu in Angamaly on 26th November 2021. Dr. Megha Thampy and Dr. Shemi George, Assistant Professors of the department were the resource persons. Ms.Nimitha and Ms.Anisha K J, I year PG students also assisted the teachers. The resource persons demonstrated bakery items such as cake and donuts for the inmates in the Pakalveedu. The programme aimed at providing training on baking for the participants. There were 20 participants in the programme.

Talents Day 2021

Talents day for the first year degree students was conducted on 18th November 2021 in the College Auditorium. First year degree students of Home Science Department participated in the competition and presented various items like song, dance and skit.

Children’s Day

As part of the observation of Children’s Day 2021, the PG and Research Department of Home Science conducted Kids Contests on 14th November 2021. Online fancy dress competition was conducted for 2 to 4 year old children and the theme was ‘Indian traditional wears’. Online speech competition was conducted for 4 to 6 year old kids and the theme was ‘Chacha Nehru’. There were 10 entries for fancy dress competition and 7 entries for speech competition. The winners and participants were awarded e-certificates.

Osteoporosis Day

As part of the observation of World Osteoporosis Day, Osteoporosis-A brief overview’ on 20th October 2021 at 3pm through Google meet. Dr. Priya Arunmon, Therapy Coordinator and Administrator, EHM Senior Solutions, The Redies Outpatient Centre, Michigan was the resource person. The webinar aimed at creating awareness on the causes, symptoms and prevention of Osteoporosis. Dr.Lizmitha Godwin, HOD, PG and Research Department of Home Science delivered welcome speech. Ms.Sherin Abraham, Assistant Professor, delivered vote of thanks. The beneficiaries were students, teachers and public. 64 participants attended the webinar.

Fresher’s Day 2021

First year degree students of were given welcome on 25th October 2021. The venue was I B.Sc. FCS class. Dr. Lizmitha Godwin, HOD addressed the gathering and welcomed the students. The first year students introduced themselves. Entertainment programmes were conducted by the III B.Sc. students. Competitions and games were conducted for the first year students.

Sustenance

Sustenance’ is the various competitions organized by the PG and Research Department of Home Science in connection with World Food Day on 16th October 2021. The programme aimed at creating awareness on the theme for World Food Day 2021, “Safe food now for a healthy tomorrow”. A Photography contest and a Recipe contest were conducted for students. The theme for the Photography contest was ‘Click from your kitchen’ and the theme for the Recipe contest was ‘A healthy sustainable diet- Indian travel food’. There were 10 entries for photography contest and 8 entries for recipe contest.

Khadi Day

As part of the observation of Khadi Day, the PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a webinar on the topic ‘Khadi-Fabric of Freedom’ on 4th October 2021 through Google meet. The resource person was Mr. K G Baburaj, Secretary, International Center for Gandhian Thought, Keala Sarvodaya Sangh, Thiruvananthapuram. The programme aimed at creating awareness on the quality and comfort of khadi products and promoting khadi products among youth. The beneficiaries were I B.Sc., III B.Sc. and II M.Sc. Home Science students. 67 participants attended the webinar.

Poshan Express

In connection with the National Nutrition Month celebration – 2021, the PG and Research Department of Home Science in association with ICDS, Angamaly organized the flag off of Poshan Express on 28th September 2021 in the college campus. Dr.Sr.Rosily. A. V., Principal, Morning Star Home Science College presided over the function. Mrs. Sayahna K J, ICDS Project Officer, ICDS, Angamaly, welcomed the gathering. Honorable MLA, Mr. Roji M John delivered the inaugural address and flagged off the Poshan Express. A flash mob was presented by the Home Science students. An exhibition on ‘Nutritious foods’ was presented by the Anganwadi wokers of Anganwadi Muncipality in the campus. Mr. Sharan, Sankar, NNM Block Co-ordinator, offered felicitation. The aim of the programme was to create public awareness regarding importance of nutritional foods in preventing under nutrition.

Faculty Exchange

A Faculty Exchange Programme was conducted by PG and Research Department of Home Science, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly in collaboration with Naipunnya Institute of Management and Information Technology (NIMIT), Koratty on 27th and 29th of September 2021. Dr. Megha Thampy and Dr. Sr. Shemi George, Assistant Professors of PG and Research Department of Home Science, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly took classes for students of II year B.Sc. Hotel Management in NIMIT. Mrs. Sonia Thomas and Mr. Richi Thomas, Assistant Professors of Department of Hotel Management, NIMIT, Koratty took classes for students of III year B.Sc. Family and Community Science in Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly. The classes were conducted online.

Alum Waves 4

The Alumnae Association and the PG and Research Department of Home Science of Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly organized a webinar series, ‘Alum Waves-4’ on the topic ‘HEALTH AND HYGIENE’ for the students in the department on 4th September 2021 at 3 pm. The aim of the programme was to create awareness regarding healthy lifestyle practices and methods to prevent infectious as well as chronic diseases. The resource person for the first session of the series was Ms. Reshmi Priya Das, an alumna of the department. She is currently working as Dietician in General Hospital, Ernakulam. She delivered a talk on the topic ‘Health’. The second session of the series was handled by Ms.Anju Krishna, an alumna of the department and currently working as ICDS Supervisor in ICDS Project Office, Edappally, Department of Women and Child Development. She delivered a talk on the topic ‘Hygiene’.  The beneficiaries were students and teachers and there were 63 participants in the programme.

A Healthy Diet

As part of National Nutrition Month – 2021 celebrations, PG and Research Department of Home Science organized a diet awareness programme ‘A Healthy Diet’. The aim of the programme was to create awareness among students and public about the importance of nutrition and therapeutic diet on different disease conditions. The awareness classes were conducted by the students of second year M.Sc. Family and Community Science from 1st to 9th September 2021. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic situation the classes were conducted as online through Google meet under the guidance of the teachers.

Ormacheppu

A departmental alumnae meet ‘Ormacheppu’ was conducted on 8th August 2021 at 4.30 PM through Google Meet. Ms.Rose Mary Jose, an alumna of the department delivered the welcome speech. The college principal, Dr.Sr.Rosily A.V addressed the meeting. Ms.Anju Krishna, an alumna of the department and currently working as ICDS Supervisor in ICDS Project Office, Edappally, Department of Women and Child Development shared her memories in the college. Teachers and the alumni interacted well. Discussions regarding conducting webinars for students by prominent alumni, workshops by entrepreneurs, donation of books to department and other activities were made and noted. 30 members participated in the meeting. Dr.Lizmitha Godwin, Head of the Department delivered vote of thanks.

Online PTA 2021

An online PTA meeting for the academic year 2021-22 was conducted for second year and final year degree classes through google meet on 4th July at 4 pm. Dr.Lizmitha Godwin, Head of the Department, delivered the welcome speech. The college principal, Dr.Sr.Rosily A.V addressed the meeting. Parents interacted with the teachers and discussed about the advantages of online classes, the difficulties faced by their wards during online classes, their progress in studies and the areas that need to be improved.

Certificate Course

The PG & Research Department of Home Science conducted an online Certificate course in Soft Skill Development for UG students from 17th to 31st May 2021. The course was conducted through online platforms such as Google meet and Google classroom. 30 students attended the course and got certificates by the completion of the course.

SVIJET HARANE

A food fest ‘Svijet Harane’ which means Food world, was conducted  by the second year post graduate students of PG and Research Department of Home Science on 15th February 2021. This was conducted to teach the students how to plan, purchase and serve food in the college cafeteria. The food items such as marshmallow, jelly sweet, samosa, jilebi, unniappam, ariyunda, kannurappam, kadumaga pickle, uppu manga, injipuly, aloofinger etc. were prepared by the students and exhibited in the classroom. The food fest was conducted by following the covid protocol. The food items were sold to students and teachers in a reasonable price. All students and staff members were very cooperative and made the event a successful one.

Computing Skills

PG and Research Department of Home Science organized an online Skill Development Programme ‘Computing Skills for Project Report Writing’ for final year UG students of the department on 23rd January 2021. Ms. Rajani Devi T. R, Assistant Professor was the resource person.

FOSTAC

PG and Research Department of Home Science in association with FOSTAC-Insight, Kochi organized a training programme, ‘FOSTAC- COVID 19 Preventive Guidelines Training’ for student entrepreneurs through Zoom meeting on 17th January 2021. Ms. Girija A.M was the resource person and 20 student entrepreneurs were benefited out of this training. The training programme aimed at providing guidance to student entrepreneurs in food sector to prevent the spread of Covid 19 at each stage of food processing. All participants were provided certificates.

A webinar on ‘Intellectual Property Rights – Concepts and Implications’ was jointly organized by the Research Cell of PG and Research Department of Home Science, Library, IIC & IEDC of Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly on 18th November 2020.

Webinar Series

As part of World Food Day, PG and Research Department of Home Science in collaboration with Kerala Agriculture University ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kottayam organized a three days webinar series was on “Organic Farming- A Sustainable Path for Worthy Health and Wealth” from 15th to 17th October 2020. The webinar was inaugurated by Mr. Pradeep P.S, CEO, Farmers Fresh Zone on 15th October 2020 at 10.30 AM. It was followed by a talk on ‘Nutrigardens for Household Security’ by Dr.Jisha A.Prabha, Assistant Professor in Home Science, KVK, Kottayam. A talk on ‘Cultivation Aspects of Nutrition Gardens’ by Dr.Sangeetha K.S, Assistant Professor in Horticulture, KVK, Kottayam was there on the second day. On the third day, Ms.Anu Anie Mathew, Assistant Professor in Plant Pathology, KVK, Kottayam delivered a talk on ‘Pest and Disease management’.  Parents, Teachers, students and research scholars were the beneficiaries.

MSPGRePA 2020

Ms.Shyma S. Mohan of M.Sc. Community and Family Science secured a consolation prize for an online Project presentation competition MSPGRePA 2020, conducted on 26th September 2020, by Morning Star Research cell in association with IQAC, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly for postgraduate students. Dr.Jissy Mathew, Associate Professor in Chemistry of Assumption College, Changanaserry was the chief judge for the competition. 

Faculty Exchange

A Faculty Exchange Programme was conducted by PG and Research Department of Home Science, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly in collaboration with Department of Hotel Management, Naipunnya Institute of Management and Information Technology (NIMIT), Koratty on 19th and 20th of November 2020. Dr. Megha Thampy, and Dr. Sr. Shemi George, Assistant Professors of PG and Research Department of Home Science, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly took classes for students of II year B.Sc. Hotel Management in NIMIT. Mrs. Rosemary V.P, Assistant Professor, Department of Hotel Management, NIMIT, Koratty took classes for students of III year B.Sc. Family and Community Science in Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly. The classes were conducted online.

Webinar Series 2020

As part of World Food Day, PG and Research Department of Home Science in collaboration with Kerala Agriculture University ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kottayam organized a three days webinar series on “Organic Farming- A Sustainable Path for Worthy Health and Wealth” from 15th to 17th October 2020. The webinar was inaugurated by Mr. Pradeep P.S, CEO, Farmers Fresh Zone on 15th October 2020 at 10.30 AM. It was followed by a talk on ‘Nutrigardens for Household Security’ by Dr.Jisha A.Prabha, Assistant Professor in Home Science, KVK, Kottayam. A talk on ‘Cultivation Aspects of Nutrition Gardens’ by Dr.Sangeetha K.S, Assistant Professor in Horticulture, KVK, Kottayam was there on the second day. On the third day, Ms.Anu Anie Mathew, Assistant Professor in Plant Pathology, KVK, Kottayam delivered a talk on ‘Pest and Disease management’.  Parents, Teachers, students and research scholars were the beneficiaries.

Magic in minutes!

Nestle India in association with PG and Research Department of Home Science, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly, conducted a live demonstration of recipes based on Nestle products through online meeting for the students of Morning Star Home Science College on 12th September 2020 at 10 AM. 140 students participated in the programme.

Nutrition Month

As part of National Nutrition Month – 2020 celebrations, PG and Research Department of Home Science organized various programmes to create awareness about nutritious foods among students and public.

In the first week of September (1st – 7th September 2020), various competitions were conducted. 

  • Take a photo of Balanced diet – ‘Balanced diet – My plate for a lunch’ competition was conducted for college students. Ten students participated in this competition. Ms. Elsa Riya Mathew of St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam secured First position in ‘Balanced diet – My plate for a lunch’ competition.
  • Quiz competition – An online quiz competition was conducted for school children of 5-10 years. 35 schoolchildren participated in this competition. 20 participants successfully completed the Quiz competition.
  • One-minute video of locally available fruits – A competition on one-minute video of locally available fruits was conducted for the public. Three participants were there in the competition. Ms. Akhila Varun of Kottekatt House secured First position in the competition.

PG students also created a video on Healthy Onam Sadhya to create public awareness about how to make healthy and nutritious Onam Sadhya using locally available vegetables and fruits.

Skill Development

Dr.Lizmitha Godwin, HoD, PG & Research Department of Home Science provided online training on 12 Fancy napkin folding techniques for the PG and final year UG students in the department through Google Classroom. The students prepared a variety of napkin folding and uploaded the photos in their class WhatsApp group. Dr.Lizmitha Godwin, HoD, PG & Research Department of Home Science provided online training on flower arrangement for B.Sc. students in the department through Google Classroom. A skill development programme on healthy recipes was conducted by Dr.Megha Thampy, Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Home Science for the staff and students of the department. The aim of the programme was to practice healthy dietary habits during the lockdown period. A demonstration video on the preparation of ‘Pot Chicken Stew’ was developed and uploaded on YouTube on 15th May 2020. Link: https://www.youtuve.com/watch?v=0UdxOZm8vik&frature=youtu.be  A skill development programme in Basic Hand Embroidery was conducted by Ms.Rajani Devi T.R., Assistant Professor, PG & Research Department of Home Science through moodle (gnomio) LMS from 10th May to 15th May 2020. 50 students registered and 30 of them were certified. Boost Immunity

The PG & Research Department of Home Science, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly organized a National Webinar on ‘Nutrients to boost Immune function- Fight Covid 19’ on 20th May 2020 at 3 pm through Google Meet. Dr.D.Shanthi, Head & Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore was the resource person.

ESTILOS

A fashion show ‘ESTILOS’ was organized by the postgraduate students in the college auditorium on 5 March 2020 from 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm. The students of II M.Sc Community and Family Science presented their creativity in the fashion show. 43 costumes were presented by the models in the ramp and designers also accompanied them in the show.
