Department Of Physical Education

Department of Physical Education was established in 1984. It provides infrastructure facilities and training in various sports events. To promote fitness culture among students, the department runs a Yoga Center and Fitness Club, the services of which are extended to the public as well. The department has been conducting Basic Training Course in Yoga from 2003 onwards and award certificates. Physical Education, a learning experience, offers a unique opportunity for problem solving, selfexpression and socialisation.

District level achievements

Morning Star was awarded the Overall Championship in Ernakulam District Senior Arm-wrestling Championship. Ernakulam district yoga championship was held at Renewal Center, Kaloor, Cochin on 27th July 2019. Our 10 students participated in the championship, Lakshmi V. J secured 4th position and Nimisha K S secured 6th position.

Annual Sports Day

The Annual Sports Day was held on 8th January 2019 with events for both staff and students. Mr.Mathew Zakariya, manager of Joy Alukkas Group, Angamaly declared the meet open. March Past and Mass Display competitions were conducted. The Department organized inter-department Chess, Badminton, Table-tennis, Arm-wrestling, outdoor Dodge ball and Base-ball tournaments. The Overall championship was won by the Dept. of Commerce, the position of first runners up was secured by the Dept. of Physics and the second runners up was the Department of Home Science.

Come Let's Play Scheme

COME LET US PLAY scheme, initiated in 2017, was aimed at providing sports training to students from nearby schools. Presently, the 24 students enrolled in the scheme are offered training in Kho-Kho.

International streak by Ms Vandhana Shaji

Ms. Vandhana Shaji secured Gold medal(84 category) in National powerlifting championship. She created a new national record and is selected to world championship.

National level achievements

Vandhana Shaji- secured a Silver Medal at the All India Junior unequipped Powerlifting Championship held at Lucknow, U.P Babitha M Babu, Anju George, Anjaly Shaju and Babitha M Babu displayed commendable performance in the Powerlifting and Arm-wrestling competitions held at Lucknow and Punjab.

Inter University level achievements

Arathy Anand, Anu A.S and Sreepriya K.S., Ahana Thankappan and Reshma M.R. were selected to represent M.G University in the All India Inter-University Kho-Kho championship. Babitha M Babu, Vandhana Shaji and Anjaly Shaju were selected for representing M.G University at the All India Inter-University Powerlifting championship.

State level achievments

In the All Kerala Senior Powerlifting Championship 2019-20 the college secured one Gold ( Ms. Devika MJ) and three Silver medals (Ms. Sona Maria, Babitha M Babu, Ms Vandana Shaji) .Ms Vandana Shaji was selected to represent Kerala for senior national which will be held at Kolkata in August. In the All Kerala Junior equipped Powerlifting championship held at Thiruvanathapuram on 13th July to 15th July, 2019 our college students secured various medal in different weight category-Devika M .J (52 Category) Gold Medal, Sona Mariya Biju (57 Category) Silver Medal,Babitha M Babu(63 Category )Silver Medal, Rehana A.R(72 Category) Silver Medal and Vandhana Shaji (84 Category ) Silver Medal.

University level achievements

In the Inter-Collegiate Kho-Kho Championship, Morning Star College won the Overall championship with 12 gold medals. Anu A.S was selected as the Best Player. In the Powerlifting Championship, Morning Star was awarded the Overall Championship in Women’s category with 3 gold and 2 silver medals. At the Athletic Championship, we secured 4th position and won 4 bronze medals in the 4x100m relay. Twelve of our students participated in the Fencing Inter Collegiate Championship.

Victorious at Rathera'19

Morning Star College, Angamaly secured 2nd runner up and a cash prize 5000/- in Rathera'19- All Kerala Kho-Kho tournament held at Kannur Medical College on 27th and 28th June 2019
